The Pocket Gophers and Moles
in San Diego County vary greatly in size. In some
parts, Gophers can be the size and length of your
thumb and yet in others, the size of a baseball
and up to 8" long. The Moles in San Diego tend to
be very small about the size of your middle finger.
Much different than its cousins throughout the US.
One way to tell if you have a Gopher VS a Mole is
that the Gophers create horseshoe shaped mounds
of dirt on top of the soil and The Mole leaves small
volcano sized mounds of dirt. Gophers tend to burrow
deeper in the soil, and thus have larger mounds.
Moles are known for running just under the surface,
pushing up the soil and sod, (much like the ridges
on chips.) When gophers make their tunnels and you
happen to step in one, it creates a depression,
and often causes ankles to get sprained, if you
happen to step on one of the moles tunnels(the raised
parts of sod or dirt) the surface goes back to being
flat again.
